The crossover achieved 70% for adult occupancy protection, 84% for child occupant protection, 57% for safety assist systems, and 60% for vulnerable road users.

In the front offset tests, both driver and passenger knee and femur protection were rated good, but the driver’s chest protection was rated weak. Additionally, the driver and rear passenger chest protection were rated as marginal during the full-width rigid barrier test. However, the Duster offered good protection in both the side barrier and side pole impact tests, earning maximum points in this category.

For child safety, the Duster provided adequate protection to the neck of a 10-year-old occupant in the frontal test. All critical body areas for both 6-year-olds and 10-year-olds received good protection during the frontal offset and side barrier impact tests.

The new-generation Dacia Duster has been confirmed for the Indian market and will arrive with the Renault badge in 2025. It is important to note that the model tested was the Euro-spec left-hand drive version, and the India-spec Duster will be different since it will be manufactured locally.

Renault Duster Scores Zero Stars in Latest Latin NCAP Crash Test - VIDEO https://indianautosblog.com/renault-duster-latin-ncap-crash-test-p324288 Mon, 30 Aug 2021 05:15:39 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=324288 The safety standards of the Renault Duster were recently put to test by the New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean. The latest Latin NCAP crash test results show that the popular SUV from the French carmaker scored a disappointing zero-star rating.

The Renault Duster, produced in Latin America and Romania, with double airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard, achieved zero stars under Latin NCAP’s latest protocol. The popular SUV achieved 29.47% in the Adult Occupant box, 22.93% in the Child Occupant box, 50.79% in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users box and 34.88% in the Safety Assist box.

The Renault Duster for Latin America does not offer side body and side head protection airbags as standard like the model sold in Europe under the Dacia brand. In the frontal impact, the SUV showed unstable structure performance and fuel leakage. The side impact test showed high intrusion of the B-pillar and an open door during the test.

New Renault Duster Front Third Quarter

Door opening in the Latin NCAP side impact test, which has the same configuration as Regulation UN95, means that the car would have failed the UN95 test. The fuel leak recorded in the frontal crash test needs further action from Renault, not just to solve the problem in production but to recall all the units sold in the market that potentially have this problem in the fuel tank in a crash. In the same line, the door opening in the side impact requires immediate action by Renault as it poses a serious risk of ejection in the case of side impacts.

The Renault Duster is not the only vehicle that has achieved a zero-star rating in the latest Latin NCAP crash test. India-made Suzuki Swift gives the SUV company. The popular hatchback, with two airbags as standard, has also scored zero stars.

All-new Renault Duster Teased Ahead Of Its Global Debut https://indianautosblog.com/renault-duster-facelift-teaser-p323969 Wed, 23 Jun 2021 06:30:17 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323969 Renault Duster is one of the most popular SUVs offered by the carmaker around the globe. The Duster is one of those first SUVs kickstarted the entire sub-compact SUV segment. The current-generation of the Duster offers amazing performance along with impressive driving dynamics, but it has really started to show its age in terms of design. Many of you may know that Renault is already working on the new facelift version of the SUV. It has even been snapped testing abroad several times.

Recently, a facelift for European-spec Duster (sold under the Dacia brand) was teased in a video, in which Dacia also gave us a glimpse of their new logo. Dacia says that the new brand logo “gives the impression of robustness and stability” and reflects the brand’s “simplistic and artful mindset”. The new Dacia logo was first seen on the Bigster concept, and as per reports, the new-gen model of the Duster is expected to be based on the same concept.

The Dacia Bigster concept was based on Renault-Nissan-Mitubishi’s CMF-B platform. One can expect this platform to thus underpin the next-gen Duster. It will not be based on the India-specific CMF-A platform, which underpins Kwid, Kiger and Triber. The Dacia Bigster concept seemed to be an evolution over the Duster’s design. It will get a pair of Y-shaped LED headlamps, rugged-looking front bumper and aggressive looking cuts and creases. The new Dacia Duster also seems to have gained some muscle over the current model.

The new teaser video of the SUV also reveals that the updated model will get a new set of headlights and taillamps.

The new teaser video of the SUV also reveals that the updated model will get a new set of headlights and taillamps. One can also expect the same platform to be used for the 7-seater version of Renault Duster. As per reports, it could be named as ‘Grand Duster’. The outgoing Renault Duster measures 4341 mm in length, while the Grand Duster will be around 46mm long, just like the Bigster concept. Cabin details and engine specs of the car are still undercover. But, one can expect the carmaker to reveal it in the coming months.

Second-Gen Renault Duster Design Patented In India - Launch In Cards? https://indianautosblog.com/second-gen-renault-duster-design-patented-p323729 Sat, 29 May 2021 14:30:21 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323729 The compact SUV segment is one of the most buzzing automotive segments in the country right now, but do you remember the first compact SUV in the Indian market that kick-started this entire segment? Well, it was none other than the Renault Duster, which turned out to be a huge success for the French carmaker in India when it was launched way back in 2012. Almost a decade later, with much newer and modern offerings from rivals, the Renault Duster has largely lost its sheen in the compact SUV segment.

2nd Gen Renault Duster Design Patent India
Renault have patented the design of the second-gen Duster in India.

A key reason for its unpopularity in recent times is that the Duster has become an ageing product in the face of many contemporary offerings. While international markets have moved on the second-generation model, Renault continues to sell the Duster in its first-generation guise in India. Although Renault have brought in periodic updates, the most recent being a facelift in 2019, it clearly has not been enough to keep up with the demand of current times.

Interestingly enough, Renault have now patented the design of the second-gen Duster in India, which suggests that the company still perceives it as a capable brand. This is despite the fact that sales for the current-gen Duster are way below expectations. To give you a perspective, Renault sold only 180 units of the Duster in April 2021. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta, which is currently the segment leader, sold 12,463 units in April 2021. That said, although Renault have patented the design of the next-gen Duster in India, it remains unclear as to when the carmaker could actually launch it in the market.

2018 Dacia Duster (2018 Renault Duster) front three quarters in motion
Markets abroad have already moved on to the second-gen Duster since 2018.

In international markets, the second-gen Duster gets a more rugged and appealing look. It gets a new chrome-studded design for the grille, a pair of sharper LED headlamps with LED DRLs, prominent front and rear skid plates, a well-sculpted bonnet, 17-inch alloys, functional roof-rails and a set of fashionable square-shaped LED tail lamps. The overall silhouette, however, remains mostly similar and readily identifiable as a Duster. The interior of the second-gen Duster is also a notable improvement over the current model on sale in India. It boasts of improved ergonomics, better quality materials, a lot more features and looks a lot more modern as well.

The Renault Duster is offered with a variety of powertrain options depending on the logo it is wearing (Dacia or Renault) and the market where it is being sold. In the UK, it's offered with as many 6 engine configurations - three petrol, two diesel and one bio-fuel option. If brought to India, the second-gen Duster will continue to be a petrol-only SUV, perhaps carrying over the 104hp 1.5L petrol and the 154hp 1.3L turbo-petrol engines from the current-gen car. That said, despite the fact that Renault has patented the design in India, it does not guarantee the launch of the second-gen Duster in India.

7-seater Renault Duster Spied During TVC Shoot https://indianautosblog.com/7-seater-renault-duster-tvc-shoot-p323665 Tue, 25 May 2021 05:30:52 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323665 The 7-seater Duster has recently been spied during its TVC shoot. Thanks to a total absence of camouflage, the latest sighting has revealed the overall design and styling of the upcoming car. The new 7-seater Renault Duster is based on the second-generation model, which is not yet retailed in the Indian market.

Front Side Look Of 7-seater Renault Duster
The new 7-seater Renault Duster is expected to be offered with both 6- and 7-seater configurations.

The recent spy image of the 7-seater Renault Duster reveals that the front fascia of the upcoming model will get sleek-looking LED headlights, while the rear fascia of the SUV will feature revised LED taillights. Moreover, the SUV gets an updated front bumper with a faux skid plate and fog lights. The overall profile of the car looks quite aggressive.

On the side, the new 7-seater Renault Duster features a new set of diamond-cut alloy wheels. The automaker has extended the overall length of the vehicle to accommodate the third row of seats. It features silver coloured wing mirrors and roof rails. Moreover, the test mule gets blacked-out windows along with body-coloured door handles. One can see that the B-pillar of the car is cladded in black plastic, while the other pillars finished in body colour. The 7-seater Duster will be offered in 6- and 7-seater configurations. The 6-seater model of the car will get captain seats in the middle row, while the 7-seater variant will employ bench-type seats in the second row. With the new three-row Duster, Renault has plans to introduce an EDC automatic transmission.

New 7 Seater Reanult Duster Front Side Look
If and when launched in our market, the 7-seater Renault Duster will rival the likes of MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar

Furthermore, the SUV could also get the Eco-G version with bi-fuel technology. Reports suggest that the automaker will offer the car with both a front-wheel driver and a 4X4 drive system. Right now, Renault has no plans to introduce a 7-seater Duster or second-gen Duster in our market. Instead, the automaker will launch the third-gen Duster in India by 2022-23. The upcoming model of the SUV will be based on the CMF-B platform, which will also underpin the new-gen Nissan Kicks. The ongoing India-spec Renault Duster is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill, which shreds out power and torque outputs of 154bhp and 250 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed MT or a CVT.

Renault Duster 4x4 Off-Roading In Heavy Slush - Video https://indianautosblog.com/renault-duster-4x4-off-roading-p323216 Sat, 17 Apr 2021 10:30:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323216 The compact-SUV segment is surely the craze of the day currently in India. However, what a lot of you may not remember is that the Renault Duster was the first original compact-SUV in India, kick starting the segment way back in 2012. At that time, Renault had the first mover advantage and the Duster turned out to be runaway success for the French carmaker in India. Heck, it was even offered with a AWD system, something unimaginable for compact SUVs these days.

In fact, the Duster was one of the most affordable vehicles in India to be offered with an AWD system back then. Owing to its compact dimensions and fairly less weight, the Duster was a pretty accomplished off-roader with its all-wheel drive system. This was one of the reasons why it became so popular as its go-anywhere capability took the liking of Indian buyers. Likewise, here we have a video of an old BS4-spec, pre-facelift Renault Duster taking on one of the most challenging off-road obstacles - the slushy mud pit crossing.

Renault Duster Off Roading
The Duster was a pretty capable off-roader when it was offered with an AWD system.

We will have to admit that the Duster overcame this obstacle with fair ease. The SUV entered the slush pit with control and poise and thanks to good clearance and traction from the all-wheel drive system, it did not beach itself in the puddle of slush. This is also a good showcase of the water wading capacity of the Duster. That said, the SUV got it's wheel spinning when trying to climb out of slush pit. However, with a little more momentum in it's second attempt, the Duster climbed out quite easily. Barring some serious off-roading obstacles, the Duster was plenty capable for most off-road scenarios.

The BS6 Renault Duster is no longer offered with a diesel engine a\or an AWD system.

Sadly, with the transition to BS6 norms, Renault have discontinued both the diesel engine and the AWD drive system on the Duster. The BS6 Renault Duster is available as a petrol-only front-driven SUV. Currently, there are two petrol engines on offer with the Duster - a 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.3L turbo-petrol. The affordable 1.5-litre unit that makes 106 PS/142 Nm and can be had only with a 5-speed MT. Meanwhile, the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine generates 156 PS/254 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed MT or an optional 7-step CVT.

Although the segment has vastly matured over the last few years, the Duster remains one of the more affordable offerings in the segment. Prices for the Renault Duster currently range between INR 9.57 lakh - INR 13.87 lakh (ex-showroom). The compact SUV segment has certainly become a lot more colorful and exciting these days, thanks to the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. With two more slated to arrive very soon - Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun - the competition is going to get even tougher. Although Renault has been regularly updating the Duster with facelifts, new engines and more features, it's still way behind the competition.

Renault Duster Goes Grand With New 7-Seater Variant; Spied Overseas https://indianautosblog.com/renault-grand-duster-spied-overseas-p323105 Wed, 07 Apr 2021 13:00:04 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323105 Earlier this year, Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault, unveiled the Bigster concept and it was speculated to pave way for a larger three-row version of the Duster SUV. Following this, there were several digital renders of the upcoming SUV on the internet imagined as the Grand Duster. The same now seems to be stepping out of imaginations and materializing towards reality. Reports claim that Dacia is working on a seven-seater version of the Duster going by the name Grand Duster along with a facelift for the standard second-gen Duster as well.

Dacia Grand Duster Spied
Dacia is reportedly working on a three-row of the second-gen Duster that will be called the Grand Duster.

It must be noted that the Duster is already in its second generation in markets abroad, while India continues to get the first-gen model. In markets where Dacia does not operate, the Duster is sold under Renault branding - like in India. Test mules of the larger seven-seater Grand Duster along with the facelift for the standard Duster were recently spotted testing on the roads of Romania. Although the standard Duster facelift test mule was covered in partial camouflage, the Grand Duster was completely under wraps.

That said, the SUV is visibly longer than the five-seater Duster and if the Bigster concept is anything to go by, it will measure 4.6 meters in length. The Grand Duster also comes with a more upright tail section and a pair of tail lights that are longer and vertically stacked. The face and the silhouette will most likely be very similar to the second-gen Duster that's already on sale in global markets. As for the facelift on the standard Duster, the SUV could be updated with reworked bumpers and new detailing for the headlamps and tail lamps.

Dacia Duster Facelift Spied
The standard five-seater Duster will also likely be updated with a mid-life facelift.

The Dacia Grand Duster will be underpinned by the CMF-B platform that already underpins the second-gen Duster. The standard Duster is offered with a variety of powertrain options depending on the logo it is wearing (Dacia or Renault) and the market where it is being sold. That said, the 154hp/250Nm 1.3L turbo-petrol engine that's offered with the India-spec Duster seems to be the most suitable candidate to be put under the hood of the Grand Duster. Transmission options could include a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.

While the interior is also expected to be largely similar to the standard Duster, it could be offered in both 7-seater and 6-seater with captain seats configuration. Internally called the RJI, the Grand Duster is likely to hit production by October 2021 before debuting in the market late this year or early next year. As far as launch in India is concerned, there has been no official update. However, given how three-row mid-size SUVs are increasingly becoming popular in India, Renault certainly wouldn't rule it out for our country. If launched, it will be a direct rival to the likes of the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar.

What if Nissan Makes its Own Version of Dacia Bigster Concept? https://indianautosblog.com/dacia-bigster-concept-nissan-bigster-rendering-p322475 Tue, 02 Feb 2021 05:00:56 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322475 Nissan and Renault have been working together, sharing technologies and platforms, under their alliance for many years now. They have also launched several models under their respective brand names that are quite similar to each other. For example, Nissan Sunny and Renault Scala, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. So, when the new Dacia Bigster concept was unveiled last month, and considering that Dacia is Renault’s subsidiary, we started to wonder what if Nissan makes its own version of the Dacia Bigster concept? To answer that question, digital artist Shoeb R. Kalania has created a rendering.

2021 Nissan Bigster Rendering Dacia Bigster concept

The rendering of Nissan’s version of the Dacia Bigster concept looks more feasible and production-ready than the actual concept itself. The designer has totally revamped the front end and added features such as a much prominent and popular Nissan’s V-Motion grille. The headlamps are totally redesigned and contain integrated LED DRLs and turn signals. We also like the vertically stacked fog lamp housings. There’s a large skid plate which makes the SUV look bolder and sturdier.

Also Read: Production-Spec Renault Kiger Sub-Compact SUV Finally Unveiled In India

The side profile of the rendering is mostly identical to that of the Dacia Bigster Concept. There are massive dual-tone 5-spoke alloy wheels that add a rugged visual appeal. The black body cladding running around the vehicle and the roof rails also enhance the SUV-ish look. The rear door handles are not located at their usual positions but placed on the C-pillar.

What are your thoughts about this fantastically-done rendering of Nissan’s version of the Dacia Bigster Concept? Drop a comment and let us know.

It is being said that the Dacia Bigster Concept would eventually turn into the next-gen Renault Duster. If that happens, we wouldn’t be surprised if Nissan comes out with a new Terrano.

Renault Duster customized with features and interior retouches, looks more premium https://indianautosblog.com/renault-duster-customized-with-features-and-interior-retouches-p321670 Wed, 30 Sep 2020 13:18:48 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321670 In the wake of the arrival of new competitors, the has gradually lost its sheen, owing to a generation old visual appeal in and out as well as lack of many modern-day features. However, we have come across a tastefully customized Duster with few feature add-ons and retouch job to its interior, which has managed to uplift its appeal a couple of notches higher.

The modified Renault Duster in question appears to a mid-spec model which has been given some feature additions on the outside. These cosmetic add-ons include a roof carrier, side body cladding and boot lid cladding near tail lamps. The approximate cost of these elements is up to INR 24,000.

Step inside this modified Renault Duster and the changes are much more apparent and welcoming. The cabin gets a cool mix of blue and white highlights which include white leather upholstery for seats, steering wheel and door panels, soft-touch blue coloured finish for the dashboard, blue stitching for the steering wheel and faux carbon fibre finish on door grab handles and steering wheel. All these interior customization changes in this modified Renault Duster costs around INR 45,000.

For the rear seat occupants, this modified Renault Duster has been equipped with dual entertainment screens behind the front seats, which cost nearly INR 30,000. While the Renault Duster is a five-seater car, the boot compartment of this modified version incorporates a small child seat as well as a chiller box, both of which together cost nearly INR 25,000.

All these changes and feature additions surely uplift the ambience of the SUV on the inside, which otherwise has a rather dull looking cabin when compared to its near rivals in the market.

Renault Duster 1.3 Turbo-Petrol Scheduled To Launch This Month https://indianautosblog.com/renault-duster-13-turbo-petrol-scheduled-to-launch-this-month-p321349 Sat, 08 Aug 2020 04:15:39 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321349 When the BS6 emission norms kicked in, Renault’s chief model was forced to let go of its diesel engine. With this, along with the 1.5-litre diesel mill, it also lost its only AWD version along with it. What survived was the 1.5-litre petrol unit which was upgraded to its current BS6 form and continues to sell today. However, this also resulted in Renault taking a major hit in sales as its clientele preferred a bit more poke than what the 1.5-litre petrol offers and the increasing number of competition since then. In order to boost sales and pick up where it left off, Renault will be launching a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol version of the Renault Duster.

Renault Duster Turbo Petrol Front Three Quarters A

First showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, Renault garnered a lot of interest with its 1.3-litre turbo petrol 2020 Renault Duster. The unit in question is Renault HR13DDT unit, which can also be found under the hood of the recently-launched 2020 Nissan Kicks. The 1.3-litre turbo engine is also in-use by Mercedes-Benz under the suffix M 282. While the Renault Captur has been discontinued in India, that leaves the Renault Duster as the sole recipient among the French car maker’s model line-up. In fact, the engine has been co-developed with Mercedes and gets direct-injection along with turbocharging capabilities. The engine will be capable of developing 156PS and 254Nm of torque. In terms of transmission options, it is likely to offer a 6-speed MT and a CVT. For comparison, the current naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol develops 106PS and 142Nm. It is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Renault Duster Turbo Petrol Tce Engine Auto Expo 2

When it comes to the interior, the Renault Duster is likely to offer similar levels of features as it does in its current state. Its feature highlights include a chrome-plate grille, 16-inch Ever diamond-cut alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with smartphone connectivity, newly-designed multifunction steering wheel, cooled storage compartment and automatic climate control. When it comes to pricing, the Renault Duster turbo petrol will definitely command a premium over its NA variants. The current Renault Duster range starts at INR 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to INR 9.99 lakh. We expect a premium of INR 1 lakh for the new turbo version.
